History, stories, and local flavors — guided by a local

"Fiume o Morte"
In 1919, the poet-soldier Gabriele D'Annunzio marched into Rijeka (then Fiume) with a band of veterans and declared it an independent state. His flamboyant regime — theatrical, proto-fascist, and utterly bizarre — became a blueprint for Mussolini. Walk the streets where ideology was born in stone and spectacle, and ask: what is fascism, really? A tour that challenges, provokes, and enlightens.

A fascinating 1.5-hour walking tour through Rijeka exploring the dramatic story of socialist Yugoslavia — from the fight against fascism in WWII, through Tito's charismatic leadership, the "Brotherhood and Unity" motto, workers' self-management and the Non-Aligned Movement, to the tragic breakup of the 1990s. Ends with a relaxed coffee and discussion.

I came to Rijeka to study history — and never really left. A professor of history and philosophy by training, I have a keen interest in political philosophy and the way ideas shape cities and societies. Rijeka is a perfect case study: layers of empires, poets, rebels, and sailors, compressed into a few square kilometres on the Adriatic.
My tours combine rigorous historical storytelling, authentic experiences, and genuine fun. Whether it's a Friday night rakija crawl or a deep dive into 20th-century fascism, I bring Rijeka to life the way no textbook can.
I offer both public and private tours, and I regularly collaborate with schools and universities for educational field trips that students actually enjoy.
All tours are conducted in English. Private tours can be arranged in Croatian or Czech upon request.
